2016 New Zealand Architecture Awards Winner
Number 5
A well-considered and sympathetic addition to a site with two existing buildings has given definition to a sheltered courtyard. The building, which serves as self-contained guest accommodation, keeps just enough discrete distance from the main residence designed by the same architects two decades ago. The language is simple, the materials robust, and the planning is clear. Connections to the existing buildings walk a carefully considered line between formality and ease; the relaxed sequence from deck to courtyard and up to and through the main house is especially well handled.
