Airways Control Tower - Christchurch
A fusion of function and form marks the design of New Zealands tallest control tower in what is a prominent transport hub setting. Sculptural concrete panels overlaid with swirling metal and polycarbonate screens support the all-encompassing viewing platform. The tapered form, slotted windows and glazed top level provide a lightness that belies the 13 stories. This is an iconic structure that expresses with function integrity.
