2011 Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards Winner
Matarangi House
An arcing approach leads to this understated delight located in a grove of mature pines, screened from the road and fronting onto a generous beach reserve. The building form is simple and clear, gesturing to both the beach and the western hills. Inside the pine bark-coloured forms the well-organised plan provides a variety of living spaces which afford comfort the year round. Muted natural tones and textures contribute to a wonderful sense of repose in this house, which is truly worthy of its award.
