Rich metaphor has allowed for an openness of interpretation in this excellent design for the extension to the existing Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. A beautifully layered collection of spaces punctuated by deeply recessed thresholds gives variety and interest from the foyer throughout. The successful creation of physical, visual and notional connections through the building from the city streets to Albert Park encourages passers-by to enter the building and experience the outstanding art collection within.
