Te Puni Village
A dense programme is cleverly resolved in this facility providing student accommodation and communal spaces on a steep slope overlooking Wellington city. The bulk of the building is dissolved by animated glazing that offers the city a vibrant pattern to the end of the wall of university buildings. Internally, the horizontal layer of communal spaces is strikingly articulated as both void and bridge. Materials, necessarily, have been handled in a straightforward and economical manner to produce a robust, low-maintenance building with simple but sufficient living quarters. The Architects have tried to wrest as much student amenity and civic advantage as possible from the brief, and have succeeded admirably.
