2011 New Zealand Architecture Awards Winner
21 Queen Street
The re-use of an existing structure is the most sustainable form of architecture, and this is a model of the genre. A 1970s commercial building, tired but by no means exhausted, has been given a new and more profitable lease of life through the addition of height and usable floor space, and the use of efficient and sophisticated glazing and air management systems. 21 Queen Street is the product of a thorough-going integration of sustainable principles and design aptitude; it is a fine example of genuine revivalism.
