Mangatawa Papakainga Kaumatua Housing
A crescent of 10, two-bedroom houses, oriented north to the sea, is the first successful stage of a project providing marae housing for iwi kaumatua. Materially sympathetic to traditional marae and rural buildings, the design of the houses allows for both communal interaction and personal privacy. Houses built to a modest budget are making a big difference to the lives of their inhabitants.
