2013 Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards Winner
Te Awamutu House
This design demonstrates an understanding of sustainability first principles. The house, which makes exemplary use of modest space, materials and labour, is passively heated and cooled with high levels of insulation and natural light. The house is well connected to the exterior with a natural flow leading between garden courts, and spaces that capture both morning and afternoon sun and provide shelter from varying wind conditions. Without utilising advanced and expensive technologies, this house is an exemplar of design for efficient energy use at the domestic scale.
