Te Awamutu House
This compact, two bedroom home offers a spatially and visually inventive design approach. An orthogonal modern box is sculpted out with a series of arcs that elide the boundary between interior and exterior and knit the house into the landscape. The conjunctions of rectilinear and circular geometries result in a series of engaging spaces punctuated by surprising roof apertures. The natural cedar cladding provides an ideal counterpoint to the solidity and mass of the raw concrete, enclosing spaces that are warm, nurturing and homely.
