2013 Hawkes Bay/Gisborne Architecture Awards Winner
St Lukes Church Strengthening
The decision was made to reinstate and appropriately strengthen this English country-style brick church after it was damaged and weakened in a 2007 earthquake. New buttresses, sub-floor ties, a diaphragm ceiling, steel ridge-tie and disabled access have all been discretely provided, and the interior timbers re-polished and re-lit. The charm and intimacy of the original structure has been retained while the building has been equipped with an arsenal of new defences.
