In this fit-out for a law firm, reception and client meeting spaces are located on the upper level. On the lower level an open-plan layout with a large collaborative area acts as a creative ‘marketplace’ in which staff may share thoughts and ideas; smaller spaces in-between lend pace and vibrancy to the workplace. Public and semi-public spaces are linked across the two floors by a ‘dancing staircase’ that creates easy unimpeded access. This vertical connection from an adaptable entrance space to the ‘marketplace’ below demonstrates a respectful attitude to people who work in the office. Materials are pared back to their inherent character, with the inclusion of natural timber in the partitioning system. The use of timber is complemented by fresh whites and patterned wallpapers that make the meeting spaces more akin to relaxed boutique spaces than the traditional environment of a lawyer’s office, and there is sense of playfulness to the design of the staffroom.
