2013 Wellington Architecture Awards Winner
Mangaroa House
Inspired by bach architecture of the past, this light-filled home works hard to meet contrasting expectations. It must work well for a small and tightknit family and at the same time accommodate large groups of friends. A working farmhouse, the building is still expected to be urban and beautiful. The key to meeting these expectations is in the close relationship between house and landscape. The sheltered court and the kitchen/living areas of the house together create a blurred transition between inside and out. Throughout the project the architects have used robust materials and planned for flexibility, creating a comfortable yet impressive home.
