2013 Nelson/Marlborough Architecture Awards Winner
Leslie House
Embedded into the hillside against an existing stone retaining wall, the house unfolds from behind a Macrocarpa shelter belt. A carefully emphasised pedestrian entry leads into a generous gallery space forming the backbone of the house and preserving the encounter with the expansive views. Structural concrete elements serve to frame vistas and anchor the home under broad, sheltering eaves that create links to the surrounding landscape. A sense of separation of living spaces has been created in a seamless and easy manner. The carefully detailed use of materials enhances the experience of a luxurious yet welcoming environment.
