2013 Wellington Architecture Awards Winner
Eastbourne Public Toilets
This project is about wrapping standard toilet modules and utility infrastructure in clothes appropriate to its seaside community – the architects, one could say, have nailed it. By combining the modules with the pumping station, the architects have given the building presence, an essential quality for an essential facility. The light band supports this objective after dark and provides an important counterpoint in the faҫade design. The jury noted the recessed doorways, which provide a sense of privacy without compromising public safety.
