2013 Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards Winner

In this office for a long-established law firm, the Architects have housed staff previously accommodated in individual offices in a new open-plan environment, supported by zones for privacy, informal meetings and team collaboration. This variety of settings responds to personal preference and enables staff to work productively. The Architects took advantage of the natural division of the floorplate to locate a reception at the ‘throat’ of the space; all client meeting spaces and the roof terrace are concentrated in the south wing, while workspaces are located in the north wing. Materials achieve a balance between tradition and formality and client comfort and familiarity. A playful use of colour, including coloured plastic on workstation cluster partitions, identifies different areas. The Marketplace, a hub for staff interaction, has a casual arrangement of residential and commercial furniture, featuring distressed Oak planking, and a large meeting area contained by thick felted curtains.
