Coaltown Museum
The skilful remodelling of an iconic West Coast museum has resulted in an exciting contemporary addition to the main street of Westport. A generous canopy leads the public into a veiled timber and glass ‘light box’. Clever and engaging design pulls the visitor deep into the darkened coal museum which is enticingly punctuated by a natural light shaft. Creative use of materials and a dynamic exhibition space weave the building and the museum exhibits neatly together.
