Ostro, Seafarers Building
The ugly-duckling Seafarers Building has been progressively morphed into a series of striking spaces, and the creation of the sprawling cosmopolitan Ostro was both the first cab off the rank and a signal of intent. Its breezy open style can make it easy to overlook the thought and skill that has gone into creating its cluster of zones for eating, drinking, socialising and lingering over that killer view over Queens Wharf. Not only has it given Aucklanders a place to engage with the harbourfront, an all-too-rare pleasure, but the striking terrace on the opposite face of the building is also alluring to those at street level in Takutai Square. Ostro makes a real contribution to its immediate urban fabric. Top marks for that.
