2025 Wellington Architecture Awards Winner
Adam Art Gallery (1999)
On a near-impossible site, wedged between the Kirk and Hunter buildings and the student union, the Adam Art Gallery transforms what was once a service space into something remarkable. Athfield Architects met the challenge with soaring verticals, a dramatic staircase, and varied spaces offering unique vantage points. Inside, the gallery feels expansive despite its compact exterior. Clad in zinc, its simple, tactile façade invites exploration, while its form and materials stand as an artwork in themselves. Now in its 26th year, the building remains as fresh and relevant as ever—a testament to its visionary design and a deserving recipient of this award.
