Supporting the increased use of ferry transport and the ongoing promotion of modal shifts in public transport, this well executed reorganisation of the downtown ferry wharfs creates an interchange with ease and flow . A repeated system of gangways, pontoons and terminal roofs bring a welcome order to Auckland's new central downtown ferry terminal. An integration of mana whenua whakairo adornments with various built elements amplifies the sense of gateway. Transition from harbour to land here celebrates and delivers on broader client aspirations for manaakitanga, hospitality and miharo - an experience of the extraordinary. Consistently blending pragmatic needs, well-resolved detailing and artwork, this terminal critically elevates the importance of public transport and the relationship of our city to the water.
