Paerata School
Built in the new community of Paerata Rise south of Papakura, this school is a key contributor to the civic presence of an emerging township, meeting the needs of the school’s pupils and staff, but also the surrounding community. Everyday coming and going for the school occurs at a central point on a north-south axis. Teaching spaces are arranged on one side and administration, library and larger gathering facilities like the gym on the other. The flexibility of the latter provides a multi-gathering venue for the broader community. While following a fairly typical arrangement of double storey teaching rooms accessed off a veranda, innovative space distribution and perforated screens layered on the western façade sets this school beyond the typical.
