Eastern Beach House
This substantial home on The Esplanade at Eastern Beach boldly, yet elegantly, takes up a prominent position behind a walled garden at the street frontage. Entry at one end sets up an uninterrupted axis through the house, allowing a gradual unfurling of spaces, each revealing greater degrees of the oasis-like landscaping surrounding the house. Drawing on both the seashore outlook and the walled garden and swimming pool at the rear, the house balances outwardness and contemplative shelter. Timber screens on the upper-level help shield views into more private spaces while cleverly framing the views out to sea and garden. Evident here is a labour of architectural love, one committed to the creation of a very special family enclave.
