2022 Auckland Architecture Awards Winner
Park Hyatt Hotel Auckland
This new city hotel faces the Viaduct Harbour towards the CBD. Outlined in a rigorous universal column structural grid, the façade is infilled with variable rhythms of filtering screens and setbacks. This controlled metal mesh façade and large white balconies hide the individual accommodation units and allow the building to be read at the scale of the waterfront. At street level a colonnade on four sides creates a generous public interface and transitional, indoor/outdoor areas for the restaurant and café uses. These also subdue the non-public facilities of the hotel. This project is a skillfully layered and publicly minded city addition providing ready public use on its exterior while encasing a richly expansive interior world expected of a high-end hotel.
