2022 Auckland Architecture Awards Winner

Cowes Police Station and Oyster Inspector’s House Restoration

Situated just meters from the shoreline in a semi-remote part of Waiheke Island, this heritage listed cottage has undergone a sympathetic and considered restoration. Careful navigation between Building Code compliance and traditional building and detailing has ensured this project remained a restoration project and not a complete rebuild. The results signal an inventive collaboration between the architects, the builder and the property’s owner. Utilising traditional carpentry techniques and detailing where visible and where viable, the cottage has been offered a delicately navigated pathway into the future.
