The Hotel Britomart
The Hotel Britomart is intricately woven into the inner city-location it occupies, carefully nestling into the heritage Buckland Masonic Building while also creating a new public laneway. The Auckland hotel’s fluid, interconnected planning merges interior and exterior seamlessly, blurring the lines between guest and public spaces, as well as those of adjoining restaurants. Dancing across the hotel’s earthy brick façade, a scattering of windows cleverly disguises its orderly internal divisions, provoking curiosity from the external viewer, while providing delightful vistas of the Waitematā Harbour or urban streetscapes for those within. This bold, contemporary, Green-Star-rated building's materiality - naturally crafted as well as luxurious and bespoke - respectfully converses with its historic neighbours, bringing an intriguing spatial richness to its lively city locale for both guests and passersby.
