2021 Canterbury Architecture Awards Winner
Muse (Formerly CBS Building)
The client brief was simply to save this building via strengthening and repurposing. Formerly the Canterbury Building Society Building, designed in 1961 by the late Peter Beavan, and now known as the Muse Hotel, the repurposing of this building was carefully considered. The structural upgrade has been secreted into the interior fit-out, allowing retention of areas of the original internal form and layout. The exterior heritage and fabric of the building has remained intact, although a rooftop bar now affords some of the best views of the inner city.
