ACE Design Competition
Density for Diversity, Sunday 17 September
A 9-hour design competition focusing on the topic of diversity. The aim is to design medium density (3-5 storeys) social housing to foster a community that embraces multiple aspects of diversity.
Each team, ideally consisting of a mixture of Architecture and Civil Engineering students, might select a particular issue they want to emphasise on. For example, a team may highlight the importance of gender equality, cultural diversity, and/or other issues they feel that is relevant in our society today.
The first step to the design process would require constructing a structural frame, almost like a grid, where the dwellings will be placed in. Materials will be provided so that teams are able to model their frames physically. Teams should take into consideration the sustainability, adaptability, and flexibility of their design in order to understand architecture that is inevitably affected by the passage of time.
