2016 New Zealand Architecture Awards Winner
LightPath/Canada Street Bridge
In this excellent project the architects have recognised the opportunities inherent in the brief and worked with persistence and imagination to make the most of them. A redundant section of motorway has been reinvented as a stretch of cycleway and walkway that, with its pink path and coloured lighting, signals the profound changes that are beginning to occur in Auckland’s transport planning. Re-purposed existing infrastructure has been artfully combined with an elegant new bridge to produce an inspiring piece of urban design with enormous public appeal. This project is the 2016 recipient of the John Scott Award for Public Architecture.
